Denver’s Local DA Elections: Why Your Vote Matters

Denver’s local District Attorney (DA) elections are just around the corner, and it’s crucial to make your voice heard. Recently, Drop host Maleman sat down with both DA candidates, Leora Joseph and John Walsh, to discuss their visions for Denver. The Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, June 25th, and you need to ensure your ballot is submitted by 7PM. If you haven’t mailed your ballot yet, it’s too late to send it by mail. Instead, use one of the drop-off locations to make sure your vote counts.

Why Vote in the DA Elections?

The District Attorney plays a significant role in our community by making important decisions on criminal prosecutions, which directly impact public safety and justice. This election is especially important for communities of color, who are often disproportionately affected by the criminal justice system. Your vote helps determine who will hold this influential position and how they will approach issues like crime prevention, rehabilitation, and community safety. The DA’s policies can influence everything from sentencing practices to initiatives aimed at reducing racial disparities in the justice system.

How to Get Ready to Vote

  1. Check Your Voter Registration: Make sure you’re registered to vote by visiting the Colorado Secretary of State’s voter registration page.
  2. Know the Deadlines: The Primary Election is on June 25th, and ballots must be turned in by 7 PM. It’s too late to mail in your ballot, so drop it off instead.
