The Art, Tradition & Culture of Chocolate
Cultura Chocolate isn’t just about making delicious chocolate; it’s about storytelling, tradition, and honoring the origins of cacao. Founded by Latina entrepreneur Damaris Ronkanen, Cultura is a bean-to-bar chocolate company dedicated to transparency, sustainability, and accessibility. Inspired by childhood trips to her family’s hometown in Mexico, Damaris created Cultura to celebrate the rich history and cultures of the communities where cacao has been cherished for centuries. From the thoughtful sourcing of beans to the beautifully designed packaging, every aspect of Cultura reflects a commitment to curiosity, authenticity, and craftsmanship. This dedication has earned the company national and international recognition, including a prestigious Good Food Award for their 70% Haiti chocolate bar.
For Damaris, chocolate is deeply personal. Her passion for food started at a young age, influenced by her grandmother’s legendary champurrado and mole. After studying at Tufts University, she honed her culinary skills in some of the best restaurants in Boston and Denver, eventually falling in love with chocolate-making as a pastry chef. Eager to explore the history and artistry behind chocolate, she launched her first company, Dead Dog Chocolate, focusing on traditional Mexican flavors and techniques. Now with Cultura Chocolate, she continues her mission on an even bigger scale, sharing her love for high-quality, ethically made chocolate with the world.
