Black Santa Project: Spreading Joy and Representation During the Holidays
The holidays are a time for giving back, and for Auon’tai Anderson, founder of the Black Santa Project, it’s also about creating moments of joy and connection within the community. In 2021, Anderson debuted as “Black Santa” in a red Nike tracksuit and Air Force Ones, bringing a fresh and relatable approach to a holiday tradition. What started as a creative idea quickly evolved into a heartfelt mission to spread cheer and provide toys to families in need. Partnering with Bella Walk and Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center that first year, Anderson helped distribute thousands of toys, proving the power of generosity to uplift an entire community.
Now in 2024, the Black Santa Project continues to grow, moving to a larger venue at Manual High School, Auon’tai’s alma mater, to meet the increasing demand. This year’s event will feature a festive winter wonderland complete with toy giveaways, crafts, and activities designed to make every family feel special. With thousands of families already registered, community support is essential to meet the goal of collecting an additional 5,000 toys. From donating to volunteering, everyone has a role in helping bring holiday magic to Denver. The Black Santa Project is more than just a toy drive—it’s a celebration of giving back and building connections that last far beyond the holiday season.
