Denver Clerk & Recorder Paul López speaks on the importance of voting

With Election Day around the corner, many of us are feeling the pressure to ensure our ballots are cast and counted on time. Anxiety is high as the weeks ahead hold significant weight, culminating in the certification of the vote on January 6. Thankfully, Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul D. López—a proud Denver native and advocate for civic engagement—is here to help. Clerk López, the first Mexican-American to serve in his role, oversees Denver’s elections and has made impactful strides in voter accessibility and transparency. From expanding 24-hour drop boxes to launching Denver’s first civic engagement program, Clerk López’s commitment to a fair and accessible voting process continues to build confidence in Denver’s elections.

Clerk López’s journey in public service began as the youngest elected City Council member from Denver’s Westside, where he championed community growth and protected immigrant rights. Today, he’s still fighting for equitable representation. Under his leadership, the Elections Division ran some of Denver’s most secure elections—despite a global pandemic—while also implementing a remote service model for public records and marriage licenses that has since become state law. As Election Day approaches, Clerk López’s practical advice and dedication to public service serve as a guiding light for Denver voters. If you’re still holding onto your ballot or want that extra assurance, tune into his essential steps for making your voice heard.

Rocky Mountain PBS will share election returns from national PBS with real-time tracking for both national and local races Tuesday, November 5. Reporters who have been following specific ballot measures will update those races, as needed, and our journalists who have written about election security will likewise follow up on those developments.
