Born as Simmie Sims III in Compton, California, Buddy has deep roots in music and a strong background in rap, singing, and dancing in particular. He grew up with gospel and soul influence from his preacher father, and was performing in plays and musicals at a conservatory by the young age of seven. When his family could no longer afford that, he began attending a performing arts high school. Being primed for the stage from an early age has made Buddy a unique entertainer with an individualistic sound.
He got his big break when he began recording music as a teenager and caught the attention of Pharrell Williams. Impressed with his artistry at such a young age, Williams began working with the then-15-year-old, signing Buddy to his label, I Am Other. Collaborating with more and more artists with each release, every step of Buddy’s musical journey led to the success of Don’t Forget To Breathe, his most recent album.

“Move On” is a smooth R&B track reflecting the frustrations of a dwindling relationship. Featuring buttery vocals and easy-going rap verses, Buddy creates an atmosphere that many listeners can relate to. It has a light-hearted sound while still being melancholy and reminiscent.
“Should’ve Known,” featuring Smino and Cedxric, shares a similar tranquil sound, with slow beats, velvety vocals, and euphoric instrumentals. This musical encapsulation of romantic R&B is practically guaranteed to have you swaying back and forth with wistful longing.
